leave your cell phone at the door.

Hello all my favorite networkers and social media kids! This afternoon I attending one of many networking events that I love going to and really, for the first time, made note of something that actually pissed me off. Here's the deal. If you are going to an event, especially one where you are trying to network at, don't be on your cell phone! Plain and simple. What impact are you trying to make when you are in the middle of a crowd and you are checking out your twitter feed?

Now I know that social networking is important in this day and age, but no matter how great the iPhone or Blackberry is, personal connections will always trump following someone on twitter or facebook.

    Oh snap, Flookin' Gooood!

When it comes to new media and social networking, rarely do I find something that really impresses me. It seems as though people try so hard to be the next Twitter or Facebook, but it wasn't until recently that I stumbled upon something that I can honestly say impressed me. Flook, the location based application has me sold. Yes, it has a funny name, but unlike every other location based app out there, Flook has the potential to be gigantically big in user-based marketing.

Instead of asking what you are doing or wanting the user to check in, Flook encourages the user to find something that they want to help promote. "What have you found?" is the tagline of the application. Simple concept with a ton of possibilities.

With the idea of capturing something worth promoting and dropping 'location cards' for others to find, Flook can be used as a tool for users to promote events or even retail sales. With the ability to post to most networking sites, along with providing directions to the location, the user in turn becomes the promoter.

Flook is a completely free application available for down in the iTunes store. For more information visit www.flook.it    .
